Stump, check the seafood center in Madison. A couple years ago we got about 40 pounds from there and it wasn't outrageously expensive and it was delicious. We just used a monster crab pot and cooked them outside, about 15 minutes with a bunch of half cut lemons and cajun seasoning. It was awesome.

start off by puttin live crawfish in large cooler and covering with water, add salt(lots) and louisiana hotsauce(2 big bottles) pick out any floaters and small dead baitfish, drain cooler and repeat.

get the water boiling with prefered sesoning, put in the potatoes, wait 10 minutes, add corn on the cob and shrooms, wait another 10 minutes, add mudbugs and wait till they start to float/turn dark red. they are done..if you wait too long they will be dry. turn the heat off and let them sit and it makes them spicey/ they will soak up the seasoning...ps...i didnt ad but you should consume at least 6-8 beers in this process...was out cooler from step 1 and add the cooked bugs and taters/corn to the cooler to keep warm. dash any left over seasoning to the cooked bugs for more fire or add lemon juice to taste

first of all wat is a CRAYFISH? its CRAWFISH!! you boil them until they float, but not too long or they will be tough. I cook them with crab boil and tony's. They make two kinds of crab boil. One in powder and the other in liquid, the liquid is more concetrated which means u need less of it so watch wat u buy. I cook them with red potatoes and half cans of corn. i know it sounds weird but grab some half cans of corn and poke some hole in the can and drain them then when u cook ur CRAWFISH just drop a couple of the in there and when ur CRAWFISH are done pull ur corn to the side and when its eatin' time just open one up and drop some butter in there and u got some good eatin'

you need to purge them first. get water boiling fast and add crawfish. When they start to float its about time. Turn off heat, let soak for about ten minutes.

Its a good idea to wash the crawfish well before cooking, but don't bother purging them, LSU did a study a while back and found that it would take 24 hours of purging to have any effect. Potatoes, onions, corn, celery, garlic and mushrooms...

I use about a bit more crawfish boil that whatever the package calls for. I also add some garlic salt.....not to much because you're not eating italian food. i do it just like this, but I also get the wife to boil dozens of eggs before hand. We peel the shells off. When you add the crawfish, put these peeled boiled eggs in with the crawfish, mushrooms, corn and taters. The boiled egg will soak up the seasonings and tast like...ummmmmmmmmm a really bad ass seasoned boiled egg...the more beer yo drink, the more you can eat....just my two cents

No dont freeze them!! u can keep them alive for a good while but dont leave them in a cooler with ice cuz when the ice melts it will drown them and thats the last thing u wanna do cuz u cant eat dead ones. You can buy a cheap kiddy pool from walmart and put them in there or even just let the lay in the cooler with the plug out.

Put all your seasoning in your water (twice the recommended amount) and potatoes onions whole garlic sausage and whatever else then get the water boiling once it's boiling drop the crawfish in and when the water comes back to a boil let it go for 3-4 minutes then cut off the fire, drop a bag of ice on top of them while still in the pot then let them soak about 35-45 minutes or until they peel easy.Don't leave them soaking too long or they will just break up when you peel them!

The good thing about keeping them alive is that you can pick out the dead ones......they are the ones that don't pinch! What would you rather eat? A fresh, live mudbug or a dead, spoiled one? You don't know how long it's been dead....an hour.... a day......a week? I wouldn't take the chance.

yea they should stay alive for a while but like i said dont drown them. If u keep water on them just put something in the tank they can climb up on and get air, like some cages or a tree limb or two. If u wanna keep them that long it wouldnt hurt to throw some dog or cat food in there for them to eat on. just make sure u wash them off after cuz i dont no ab u but i dont want my crawfish tasting like kibbles and bits if u no what i mean

Im not going after them until it warms up this spring I dont know if you would have much luck catching many right now.I ordered two traps last night.Being they show be fresh I will order a few more when I get some money.I figure this will be a good way to get rid of some of the fish I shoot.I might even run a trot line this summer but dont know much about it.I always get more game trapping than I do hunting so I would think trotlining would be productive too.

Dont forget to purge them in water to get the mud out if you are going to eat them the day you catch them!

You can get dysentaryform eating dead crabs or crawfish.

Man the one thing nobody has said yet and should have been the first thing mentioned is butter, put lots and lots of butter in the water before you boil em, it makes em 100 times easier to pull out of the shell. Also just like Hoopty said lemons.... cut in half give a good quick squeeze and drop em in the water.

We use vinegar here to toughen up the meat when boiling or steaming.

going to a birthday party two weekends from now, and we are having crawfish. thanks too stump ill be thinking crawfish for the next 11 days. I can taste them right now. ill make sure I take some pics.
other than the crawfish, i like the mushrooms, garlic (whole cloves), and corn. The red potatoes are good, but nothing beats the 3 listed.

we always cook the corn and potatoes first with minimum seasoning. Then the first batch for the kids. Second batch we add half the seasoning to get it kicking and the final batch, you put everyhting you have left in the pot (you should never have seasoning left over after a crawfish boil). A big jar full of jalepenos works well also.

That's how i do it. Feed the kids first then the wives and then the men try to show their asses by triin not to drink any beer between heads.

I cook them with red potatoes and half cans of corn. i know it sounds weird but grab some half cans of corn and poke some hole in the can and drain them then when u cook ur CRAWFISH just drop a couple of the in there and when ur CRAWFISH are done pull ur corn to the side and when its eatin' time just open one up and drop some butter in there and u got some good eatin'

its crayfish up north

Purging - Stick them in a cooler full of salt water. Makes them ill and they purge themselves.

We always just put'em in a pot on the grill and boiled them alive and use some old bay or whatever seasonings and a little beer just like shrimp. Then just lay them out on a paper towel on a plate and your set!

we have two big pots, one for cooking and one for soaking . Inthe cooking pot we use just salt water and in the soaking pot we use Pro boil.liquid crab &shrimp boil & tonys. You boil the crawfish 8 - 10 minutes ,pull em out & dunk in the soak pot. The longer you soak the spcier the get. We do it that way so some folks like em on fire and some don't and you can adjust how hot they are by how long they soak( we knocked down 245# at my house last time)

when boilng them i use a different way. try this it works good for me. first drink some beer then u get the pot and burner set and drink more beer. then put water in pot and bring to a boil drink beer while boiling. ok now is the time we get the yagger monster take a few shots and the finger foods taters, corn, spiceies, sasauge, stuff like that r what ever u want to eat.. drink a beer and 2 shot.r until its done drink more beer.. now its time for the crawfish ok send the ol' lady to the store for some ice and beer.. get a extra bag of ice don't open it put it in a cooler!! drink a few beers and shots, now put the srawfish in the water and lid on pot ok drink more beer and a few shots. heres a trick i learned.. watch the pot when u see steam comeing out the pot let them go about 10 to 15 mins more.drink a beer ok turn off fire now take a shot and grab that bag of ice and put that in the pot mix around take a shot drink a beer till ice is gone.. take them out put in a cooler pour "slap yo momma" season on it drink a beer shake icechest and put them on a table and eat oh yeah drimk lots of beer it makes u look like you know what u doing.....

get the water boiling with prefered sesoning, put in the potatoes, wait 10 minutes, add corn on the cob and shrooms, wait another 10 minutes, add mudbugs and wait till they start to float/turn dark red. they are done..if you wait too long they will be dry. turn the heat off and let them sit and it makes them spicey/ they will soak up the seasoning...ps...i didnt ad but you should consume at least 6-8 beers in this process...was out cooler from step 1 and add the cooked bugs and taters/corn to the cooler to keep warm. dash any left over seasoning to the cooked bugs for more fire or add lemon juice to taste
Tried this recipe last wknd and ended up great, thank you
